Urostomy

A urostomy is a surgical procedure that creates an opening in the abdominal wall that allows urine to drain due to the removal of the bladder.

The proper pouching system for a urostomy is a wafer and a urostomy pouch. The wafer can be flat or convex, a bowl like backing to help push out stoma for proper drainage. A urostomy pouch will have a valve at the bottom to empty conveniently. Can come in a one-piece appliance or a two-piece system.
